Detailed Job Description

Provide information and assistance on all aspects of our Nursery services. Ensuring all phone calls and visitors receive prompt, efficient and courteous service in line with the customer services policy.

Responsibilities will include ensuring health and safety procedures are followed for children, parents and staff at all times.

To follow all policies and procedures at all times and ensure that the children are supervised, motivated and engaged during their sessions.

Adhere to Apprenticeship training programme with Brockenhurst College. Attending initial induction and skills scans and further workshops at Brock House. Day release attendance at College throughout term time dates to be confirmed with College Coordinator.

Support, assess and develop young children with constructive play and attend to children`s needs using safe and best practice guidelines.

Any other duties that may be requested from time to time by your manager which may not be in the job description but which reflect the general nature of the post.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths pass A-C grades
  • GCSE ICT or equivalent
  • CRB/DSB check required on appointment
  • Interest or experience with young children

Skills required

  • Child Care skills and communication
  • Working within a team environment and individually with young children
  • Comfortable working to strict guidelines and policies- desirable

Personal Qualities

  • Excellent communicator, both oral and in writing
  • Motivated and can use ones owns initiative
  • Committed to providing high quality care service to all children and parent customers
  • Confident, professional and calm manner at all times, even under pressure
  • Practical approach to organising and time management- Desirable
  • Resilient and able to cope with multiple internal and external demands- desirable
  • Happy to work in a child friendly environment
  • Understand the need for confidentiality

Future prospects

Would be able to apply for various positions within the organisation if such opportunities arise, and supported learning progression to Advanced Apprenticeship in a Professional Studies pathway for Early Years.

Training provided

Intermediate Apprenticeship in Children and Young Peoples Workforce Development (CACHE)

Diploma Level 2, Employer Rights and Responsibilities, Functional Skills covering English and Maths and ICT skills Level 1 or above dependent on applicants previous qualification.

From the 1st October 2017 a National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices has been introduced for young people aged 16-18 and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new rate is £3.50 per hour ( The new NMWA applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship). Anyone not covered by the age category above during the second year of an Apprenticeship be entitled to the NMW appropriate to their age.
