Description

We are one of the longest established riding schools and livery yards in Kent, situated in 54 acres at the foot of the North Downs and surrounded by beautiful countryside and lots of hacking routes.

In addition to the busy livery yards, our Riding School is gaining an exciting reputation for rider development and specialist training clinics. The Riding Centre is affiliated to British Dressage as well as British Show Jumping and our three floodlit arenas enjoy a busy calendar of events almost every weekend throughout the year.

A placement is available for an enthusiastic and energetic, ideally Level 3 individual, who wants to gain knowledge and experience in a wide variety of horse care disciplines and activities. Depending upon experience, the general duties and training will cover:

  • Customers – Helping with - Office admin duties, welcoming riding school and livery customers, maintain the school booking systems, checking stocks
  • General yard & field duties – helping to keep the yard, barns, fields and arenas clean, tidy and free of weeds and poo
  • Stable Management – stable mucking out, bedding maintenance, preparing hay and straw bags, feeding and watering
  • Horse care – Giving lots of love and attention, regular grooming, general health monitoring, preparation of feeds, checking/swapping rugs, attendance on vets, farriers and physios
  • Exercise and turn out – Assisting with turn-outs and returns, washing down, hoof picking, tacking up and un-tacking, assisting with horse and pony exercise programmes
  • Riding School – Preparing horses for school schedules, assisting Instructors with lessons and clinics, helping out with special school events and pony clubs, tack-cleaning and maintenance
  • Competitions – be part of the show teams helping out with Collection, Arena teams, placing jumps and courses and even helping and observing the judges

There’s opportunity for making lots of new friends (2 and 4 legged) and we want all of our staff to have the chance to improve their own riding skills with regular free coaching from our instructors and helping out with our exercise programmes.

Prior experience with horses is essential, preferably having already completed a Level 2 Horse Care qualification
Must be able to work towards Level 2 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English
Full training supported by Haddon Training
Successful candidate will be hard-working and keen to learn all aspects of a busy riding school and livery yard.
Possibility of full time employment on completion of the Level 3 Apprenticeship
