Description

This is an excellent opportunity for an Apprentice Catering assistant looking for a role in a busy cafe situated in Saltram House, a National Trust property.

There are great development possibilities for the right individual who is looking for a career not just a job.

The role is very varied and they have to be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business, for example during busy periods.

Skills required

Commitment to completing the apprenticeship and incorporated qualifications.

Duties will include Support with collecting and checking deliveries as required and placing them in the appropriate storage areas.

Be responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness of all areas in the kitchen and of equipment.

Ensure food preparation and control meets requirements in respect of COSHH, Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations are adhered to and any incidents are reported in line with procedures.

The most important part of the role is developing fantastic ‘hospitality’ skills and knowledge such as recognising customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer feels welcomed and looked after.

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Level 2 Hospitality Team Member Qualification.Your qualification will be delivered by an Award Winning Training Provider who will support your learning and development throughout your Apprenticeship. This will involve a Regional Trainer coming to visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and guide you through your qualification.Candidates must be able to work well under pressure, be organised and accurate when preparing dishes. You will be working with fresh food in a very busy environment on a daily basis. This site is in a rural location and you must have transport.

Commitment to completing the apprenticeship and incorporated qualifications. Good people skills enabling strong relationships externally and internally, to be built and maintained. Able to work flexibly as part of a team. Commitment to customer service standards. Able to follow clear instructions competently. May have some knowledge of relevant Health and Safety procedures. Able to use tools, equipment as required for the role. .
No previous experience or related knowledge is required.

Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role.

This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English.

Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.

Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.

Before taking their end-point assessment apprentices must achieve level 1 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades D to G) * take the test for level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C)

You need to be passionate about food and have a strong desire to work in the hospitality industry. You will need to have a positive attitude, be well presented, motivated, reliable and punctual. You will need to be able to adapt to change.
Whilst there is no guarantee of employment at the end of the apprenticeship at your training property, once the apprenticeship has been successfully completed, you will be in a position to be able to apply for some of the related roles that are regularly advertised on the NT jobs website.
