Opportunity for hands-on training in all aspects of care at a quiet, private yard near Cirencester.

Working with a friendly team and a selection of lovely horses - privately owned horses, liveries and brood mares. The successful applicant will work directly alongside the yard manager in a low-pressure environment, giving plenty of opportunity for tailored learning and development.

General duties to include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Paddock maintenance
  • Hacking
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Stud duties to include:

  • Checking broodmares
  • Handling foals
  • Preparing brood mares for insemination
  • Night watch shifts at foaling time
  • Assisting with foaling

Prior experience with horses is essential
Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English
Full training supported by Haddon Training
High standards, a can-do attitude and an eye for detail are essential
Possibility of Level 3 Senior Groom Apprenticeship on completion of Level 2
