This involves filling the drinks fridge, checking everything is super clean, writing specials on the blackboard, putting out the outside furniture and picking flowers and making arrangements for the tables. You will arrange the cakes on the counter and date them. You will then speak to the kitchen who will inform you of the day’s menu so that you are able to tell the customers. Your job will then be to make the drinks, decorate the cakes, take orders efficiently with the many alterations customers will make. During the service, you will continually check that everything is going well and if you see a problem or people looking unhappy, you will check that they are satisfied. Children love the cafe, so it is vital that they are offered a high chair and toys. You may ascertain that it is someone’s birthday so your job would be to inform the kitchen who will light a candle for them. We also expect you to converse and enjoy talking to the customers and answering their questions. You need to be a happy person who is also willing to learn what to do if a customer is not happy. Fat Apples also does outside catering on a small scale for weddings, funerals, parties etc. we also have event nights here with bands and acts and are hoping to include theatrical performances next year outdoors. This will all be catered for and will require professional front of house personnel to help it run smoothly as numbers of customers will be significant. At the end of the day, it is your role to ensure that the cafe ls closed down and ready for the following day. This involves cleaning down, sweeping and putting the cakes away - making sure the tables are ready for breakfast.
