Role Overview
As Assistant Group Accountant you will support the key projects undertaken by Group Finance including the production of the Plc annual and interim financial statements, monthly Group management accounts for the Board of Directors and preparation of forecasts and budgets.
- This role will provide the successful candidate with an understanding of all the divisions within the BCA Marketplace group.
- The successful candidate will be mentored by an experienced professional within the Group Finance team.
Group Finance and the role
Group Finance operates as a centre of technical excellence for the Group and works as a multi-disciplinary team to offer guidance and support to the rest of the business.
The core responsibilities of the Group Finance team consist of Financial Reporting, Tax, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Treasury, and Holding company accounting.
- Financial Reporting is responsible for preparing internal Group reports for the Board of Directors as well as external reporting to the shareholders
- Tax covers Group, UK and European tax calculations and compliance• FP&A focuses on Group budgeting and forecasting
- Treasury involves monitoring compliance with the Group debt facility as well as cash forecasting and management
- Holding company accounting – maintaining company records for the Group holding companies
The successful candidate will be involved in Group Finance activities including;
- Supporting the preparation of the monthly consolidation and management accounts
- Assisting in preparing consolidated budget and forecasts
- Assisting the month-end book close for Group and Holding companies
- Weekly profit and loss forecasting
- Treasury, including daily cash reporting
- Working with the wider business to understand their trading performance
- Contributing to the production of the Plc annual and interim financial statements
- Preparation and review of subsidiary statutory financial statements under FRS101
- Supporting the delivery of ad hoc projects as and when they arise

- Good oral and written communication skills a prerequisite.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - articulate, persuasive, confident, possessing sound intellect
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and manage time effectively•
- Experience of using Excel would be an advantage
- Full UK driving licence would be an advantage
- A 2.1 degree is necessary, a finance related subject (e.g. economics or accounting) would be beneficial
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs A*-C including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications.
As an Accounting Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Accountancy Taxation Professional Apprenticeship at Level 7. Within the apprenticeship you will undertake the ACCA professional qualification.
The apprenticeship will be completed at a BPP centre or via the Online Classroom platform, in addition to at the workplace.
