Boost your confidence and brush up on your employability skills with GetMyFirstJob's Employathon: an exciting new virtual programme supported by UBS!

A survey conducted by The Prince’s Trust in 2017 found that 43% of young people feel ill-prepared for work, and that they lack the soft skills and the confidence to prosper in employment.

We at GetMyFirstJob wanted to help young people between the ages of 18 and 25 in boosting their confidence, self-efficacy and long-term employability. As a result, we are thrilled to present GetMyFirstJob's Employathon: an exciting new virtual employability programme, supported by UBS!

Over the course of 5 weeks, we’ll be talking to you about a range of different topics and by the end of the Employathon, you’ll be confident in making job applications. Our workshops will include:

  1. Employathon Welcome: You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your own situation, needs and ambitions with us and we’ll give you an understanding of the importance of employability and how this workshop and programme will help you.
  2. Finding Jobs & Making Applications: By the end of this workshop, you will be able to make a job application on your own and know how to do a psychometric test. We’ll give you the confidence to create your own CV or if you already have one, we’ll give you tips on how to critique and be able to improve it.
  3. Your Personal Brand: By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to define your own personal brand and know how to show it in job applications. We’ll also talk about online and digital presence, virtual networking and using LinkedIn.
  4. Nailing all kinds of Interviews: There are lots of different types of interviews that are used in recruitment and this workshop will give you some tips on most of them. We’ll also have a focus on online and virtual interviews as well as techniques that you can use during interviews.
  5. Into the Working World: When you’ve been offered a job, it can be easy to overlook the basics. We’ll cover the essentials like office etiquette and what it’s like working from home. We’ll also talk to you about personal finances and budgeting as we know that can be daunting at first.

This programme is open to those interested in a variety of industries; however, it is most suitable for those interested in pursuing a career within a business-oriented discipline. This includes the following industries:

  • Business & Administration
  • Financial Services, Banking & Accountancy
  • Information Technology
  • Leadership & Management
  • Marketing & Public Relations

Complete the Employathon, and you will be able to...

  1. Build an understanding of the opportunities available to you, how to access them and their requirements
  2. Feel better supported to make informed decisions about your future and select a desired career path
  3. Gain confidence in yourself and your ability to communicate with an employer
  4. Develop an enhanced knowledge of the careers and labour market; broadening your understanding of the careers available

Upon completion of the programme, we will point you in the right direction to find jobs based on your new skills, qualifications, location and interests. You will also be provided with digital accreditation and a printable certificate.

As for those of you who don’t get onto the programme. You will not be forgotten! You will still get access to resources from the programme including the workbook, and you will also receive a call from us to discuss other opportunities suitable for you.
