Whether they're leaving the care system, overcoming illness, struggling to find work or at risk of exclusion from school, The Trust sees their hidden potential - and wants to harness this even further to make a big difference. That's why the charity is empowering thousands more young people across the UK who are desperate to take control of their futures, particularly those who cannot access face-to-face courses, by putting digital learning at the heart of its delivery.
One person who has enrolled on The Trust's free online business course is 20-year-old Shiarna Crawford from Kent. She reveals how this form of studying has turned her life around.
"I was going through a bit of a bad patch last year, having experienced mental health issues since I was a teenager, which were made worse when my parents split up," says Shiarna, who has ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia, plus an emotionally unstable personality disorder.
As a result, she had to drop out of college and, later, an apprenticeship, in order to cope. The medication she was taking did little to help her.
After discussing a business idea of opening a 'lifeline café for young people' with her neighbour, Shiarna signed up to Prince's Trust Online - a free learning platform to help budding entrepreneurs and develop young people's employability skills.
"Learning online takes away the anxiety of getting on buses and then travelling a long way to college. With Prince's Trust Online, working from the comfort of my home means I don't have to leave the house and therefore I don't get anxious."
Shiarna now has a stable support system in place and she's passionate about supporting others in similar situations. She's even working with her local MP to campaign for better mental health services, which ties in with her idea of a lifeline café.
"The café will be a safe place to learn, connect, support and protect people," says Shiarna.
"Thanks to The Prince's Trust, I now know how to network, how to talk to people and how to get myself out there. The Trust has changed my life."
Prince's Trust Online allows 18 to 30-year-olds to learn at their own pace, while giving them the tools they need to become their own boss or boost their interview and CV skills.
