Now, more than ever, there is going to be lots of competition for every apprenticeship position across the UK. Here are some simple steps to improve your profile.

We know how frustrating it can be having to add your information to lots of different websites. However, now more than ever there is going to be a lot of competition for apprenticeship opportunities. So, we’re sorry, but we’re also asking you to update your profile.

We want to do this, so you have the best possible opportunity of getting an apprenticeship or other job opportunity. When you apply to a job on GetMyFirstJob, the recruiter, employer or training provider will get to see your profile. That includes your CV, your qualifications and your contact information so they can arrange your interview. So, it is really important that you keep it up to date!

When you sign up to GetMyFirstJob, you also have the opportunity to get talent-spotted by employers and training providers. We know that the people that get talent-spotted most often are the people who fill out their profile the most.

Upload your CV

It sounds simple, but the first thing that a lot of people look for is that you have a CV. This is because a recruiter, training provider or employer will see your CV and think you’re proactive and really looking to find a new job. It also means that they can find out a little bit more about you and send your CV to an employer and then invite you for an interviewer if the employer is happy!

Upload supporting documentation

You can now also add photos of certificates or photographic images that will help demonstrate your full potential to any employer. You don’t have to do this, but it could really put you above other candidates. Here are some examples of what you could upload:

Childcare or Teaching – A picture of a plan you have made that you could do to occupy a group of children

Hospitality – A picture of a meal that you have cooked, a cake you have decorated or even a recipe you have made

Graphic Design – A picture that shows an example of what you can already create

Hairdressing – A picture of a haircut or style that you have done

If you’re going to upload these kinds of materials, make sure that you talk about them in your covering letter or the ‘Other information’ section of your profile.

Upload your qualifications (even if they’re predicted)

Again, it sounds like a no-brainer but make sure you upload your qualifications, even if they are predicted grades! It will show employers that you’re confident with your application and that you’re ready for the education part of the apprenticeship too. If you don’t have qualifications, that’s absolutely fine too – add in anything you do have. Alternatively, you can impress more by adding in lots of detail on the ‘Other information’ page.

As I’m sure you know, you need to have a certain level of qualifications in order to get onto different apprenticeships. For example, you need to have GCSE’s to qualify for an advanced apprenticeship. If your profile doesn’t say that you have any GCSE’s, your application might not be considered as you wouldn’t be eligible for the apprenticeship. So, make sure it’s up to date, even if they’re predicted grades!

Keep your Personal Details up to date

If an employer, recruiter or training provider is interested in your profile they will want to get in touch with you. So, make sure that your personal details are up to date so they can get in touch with you!

Fill out the ‘other information’ section

A recruiter, employer or training provider really wants to get to know you, as do we! One of the reasons that GetMyFirstJob was set up was because we think too much emphasis is put on qualifications rather than the individual.
