Have you ever thought about a career in engineering as a woman, but had second thoughts because of stereotypes that exist? You're not alone - many women feel the same way. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re here to put the misconceptions behind you to show you that a career in engineering as a woman is not only possible but also incredibly empowering.

Skills aren’t tied to gender

As time goes on, our world is becoming more diverse and inclusive, as shown by the growing number of women getting excited about careers in engineering. Women are being celebrated across the industry, breaking old stereotypes and proving that skills aren't tied to gender. Some of our employers have shared that 40% of their employees are now women, and this number continues to grow. Engineering is not a career only considered for men - women have an important role in the success of many employers.

Women's Engineering Society also found that the number of women in engineering roles continued to rise even when the total number of people working in engineering fell in 2020 and 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Female representation is on the rise within engineering and the statistics show no sign of it slowing down!
