You could apply directly for jobs as a school matron. Employers may view your personality and life experiences as more important than qualifications. You'll usually need experience in working with young people. Some may ask for relevant training and qualifications, including GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) in English and maths.

You could start as a house parent or assistant matron, then move to matron and senior matron. You could also become a housemaster or mistress or head of boarding.
Teaching assistants support teachers and help children with reading, writing and learning activities.
Residential support workers look after the physical and mental wellbeing of children or vulnerable adults in care.
Training officers plan and run courses and workshops for staff within organisations.
Montessori teachers help very young children to grow in confidence, and learn at their own pace.
Social workers help to protect vulnerable children and adults from harm or abuse, and support people to live independently.
British Sign Language (BSL) teachers teach sign language to children, young people and adults, and teach other subjects using sign language.
