Lifeguards look after swimming areas, help swimmers to stay safe and carry out rescues in emergencies.
You can complete a leisure team member Level 2 apprenticeship to get into this role. To get onto an apprenticeship, you'll find it useful to have some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent.

You could become a leisure centre manager with the National Pool Management Qualification. Some pool lifeguards get swimming teaching or coaching qualifications and give swimming lessons. You could also train and lead a team of lifeguards. You could compete in lifeguarding competitions.
Personal trainers work with clients to improve their health and fitness.
Martial arts instructors teach martial arts like karate, jujitsu and judo.
Fairground workers operate and maintain rides at theme parks or travelling fairs.
Cycling coaches help riders develop their cycling skills.
Swimming teachers help people learn to swim, improve their swimming skills and how to exercise in water.
Athletes compete in track and field events for their clubs, and some go on to represent their country at international level.

Lord Butler Fitness and Leisure, part of 1Life, are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Leisure Assistant Apprentice to work in our busy Leisure Centre.Working on a rota basis in a Members Only Health & Fitness Club, you will work with the Duty Manager to deliver a high level of customer service to the members. The main tasks include assisting members in the gym, pool emergency response, working on reception, and maintaining the facility cleanliness.
