Southern Water provides our communities with the fresh water that they need to keep life flowing. But just as crucially, our Wastewater Treatment team treat and recycle 700 million litres of wastewater at our 368 treatment works every single day.



Overview: 
We are now looking for eager candidates to join us as apprentices. 
The purpose of the Data Analyst role is to work with Southern Waters lines of business to build analytics products, enabling stakeholders to understand business performance.  



The Data Analyst will use analytical techniques to identify trends, anomalies and conduct statistical analysis to answer key questions from lines of business.  



Salary:
£22,778 per annum. 



Duties: [the Data Analyst will be:]





  • Sitting within an assigned line of business interacting directly with stakeholders for their workload, with support from the broader Data Team. As such, the role necessitates a collaborative approach to working as well as Analysts being strong communicators.


  • Involved in utilising Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes to collect, clean and store datasets for analysis, working alongside our Data Engineering function in defining & implementing such data pipelines. 


  • Utilising Southern Waters new Azure data platform, alongside the new PowerBI dashboarding suite, R Studio & Alteryx to design & deliver analytical products.


  • Working with the wider Data Team to influence and input into business engagement strategy, solutions design, product delivery and data governance.


  • Producing insight generating products, ad-hoc analyses and self-service products based on business requirements.  


  • Proactively delivering data products by developing an understanding of Southern Waters business areas to spot opportunities where analytics can drive performance improvements.




Areas of the role: 





  • Working alongside key business units and programmes to plan, prioritise and shape work - 10%


  • Developing data and analytics products for use in the line of business - 50%


  • Working with the rest of the data and analytics team to share and influence good practice - 10%


  • Working with line of business stakeholders to develop and build data literacy and self-service capability - 20%


  • Continuous personal and department wide development and improvement - 10%




What we are looking for: 
Skills & Competencies: 





  • Curious – interested in asking questions about what, how or why


  • Organised and capable of managing own work and tasks


  • Passionate about the possibilities data can bring to a business


  • Able to design and develop end-to-end analytics products




Entry requirements:
Standard entry:





  • Level 3 qualification (apprenticeship/A-levels/BTEC, etc)


  • OR equivalent work experience (typically two years in a relevant role)
    Plus:


  • 5 GCSE's, including English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above 


  • Experience with using Excel and Microsoft products (or similar)




You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.



If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
