Civil engineering technicians give technical support to engineers on construction projects.
You can do a foundation degree or higher national diploma in civil engineering. You'll usually need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English, maths and science and 1 or 2 A-Levels, or equivalent.
You may need 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 (A* to D), or equivalent, for a Level 2 course. You'll need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, for a Level 3 course or a T Level.

With experience, you could progress to supervisory or site management roles, or specialise in particular areas of the job, like construction design or estimating.
Building services engineers design, fit and maintain the heating, lighting and power systems in offices, hospitals and shopping centres.
Construction plant operators work with machinery and equipment used on building sites.
Vehicle body repairers mend damaged vehicle parts and bodywork using metalworking and finishing techniques.
Planning and development surveyors assess, design and manage development projects in towns, cities and rural areas.
Engineering construction technicians install, service and repair machines and equipment in buildings, factories and industrial plants.
Foundry moulders make moulds to shape molten metal into castings used to make parts for industry.
