“My favourite thing about the Academy was putting theory into practice. At times it would be tough trying to understand the copious amounts of legislation we were studying, but when we practised role-play scenarios with our colleagues, it all came together… No working day is the same, and that is what I love most about the role.”

Police Constable Sajjad Asif

“I joined the Police Now National Graduate Leadership Programme because I wanted to make a positive impact on communities. The training, development and opportunities were a key incentive for me.”

Police Constable Nilufar Ali

“Personally, my diverse background has allowed me to connect with the community better and create meaningful relationships. I have been able to break down barriers and have represented the Asian community. Sometimes this has been as simple as sharing the same language which has meant that I have had improved communication with individuals.”

Police Constable Rebecca Hodgson

Programme participant

“Serving the community on a personal level, as someone that the community can relate to, helps build up a rapport and a personable approach to policing. Having people that are from the area and or aware of the cultures and religious beliefs in the area helps tailor policing to that area so we get better engagement – try to think outside the box. Don’t just think policing practices but consider wider agencies and think long term solutions to problems.”
