Hello, I Am Owen

Tell us more about your experience

I decided to do an apprenticeship to get valuable experience in the job that I am interested in. It offers a good mix of learning from my peers about the role whilst also giving me the time I need to complete my studies, with the added benefit of working towards a qualification that will help me in my future career achieve the things I want to achieve. My advice to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship is to research your options. Get as much information as you can to what it will offer you and compare it with the others to make an informed decision. I chose to do an apprenticeship and I made the right one.

I am currently working in the invoicing team in the Finance department as of October 2022, I run two separate invoicing schedules one every two weeks and one once a month, for two separate categories of the business. In the time in-between I reply to queries about invoices and amend them accordingly as things change and create new customer accounts ready to be invoiced. I also am studying towards my exams in the academic side of my qualification. I do have a lot of support in my current position. I have regular meetings with my line manager who I can discuss any issues with who has always been very informative and helpful, additionally my mentor is currently going through the same course as me. He is 2 years ahead so is a good source of tips and advice on what is to come. Within the invoicing team everyone is very helpful and supportive of each other and I can always rely on the new apprentices Whatsapp group for a laugh.

The highlight of my Apprenticeship so far has been meeting the other apprentices and going out to socialise with them. Workwise I enjoy getting recognised and thanked for doing good work, it brightens my day. The biggest challenge by far has been time management. There is a lot going on at once and to be able to allocate enough time to complete tasks without getting behind on others is something that I think will continue to be a challenge for the rest of my apprenticeship.
