Hello, I Am Laima

I decided to do an apprenticeship because of how independent it enables you to be. Alongside being independent and taking ownership of your study and work, you develop a lot of invaluable experience and get to work with experts in the legal field. Working alongside these experts enables you to learn from them and the mistakes and lessons they’ve learnt through their journey into law. This experience puts you in an excellent position for future employment.

Can you describe your job and what you do on a day-to-day basis?

On a day-to-day basis my work differs. Some days I may be drafting contract extensions, NDA’s etc. and on other days I may be doing Admin to keep the legal team site up to date for our lawyers, alongside this I may also shadow lawyers on matters that they are working on. It is never a dull day and I am always learning and doing something new, this is what really exited me about the apprenticeship route.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Since I am still very new to the role. I haven’t had my “highlight” moment yet. However, there are a few upcoming things that I am really looking forward to. This includes a project my team and I are working on with a university.

What sort of support network do you have at your company?

At work I get 1-1 support from both my line manager and my mentor, this includes checking up on my work daily and having weekly calls to see if I need help with any work. Alongside this help I also work in a great team who are always happy to make time and help me with any problems I may have.

What would be your words of advice to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

Go for it! An apprenticeship is an amazing opportunity to gain experience and knowledge you learn from experienced people, and it is never a dull moment. You will enjoy it very well. Also, you will not have the burden of debt.
