Hello, I Am Matthew

I knew I wanted a degree, which is why I dismissed the idea of apprenticeships in the first place. But then I found out about the degree apprenticeship program with BMW Group and instantly applied! With this apprenticeship, I get 4 years experience with an incredible company, making meaningful change and a degree with no debt!

Tell us more about your experience

I am training to be a quality specialist for the Powertrain and Driving Dynamics team. On a day-to-day basis, I work with other quality specialists who test pre-release cars for BMW.

The highlight of my career so far was being flown to Germany for a week to do test driver training!

The biggest learning curve was adapting to professional life after sixth form. There's a big difference between working in school and working for a company!

"The tutors and other associates were very helpful with the transition to working life, so it didn't feel like too much of a challenge in the end."

I have four different groups of associates I can go to if I ever need help. I have the training provider to aid me with my studies; the apprentice management department looking out for my career path; my placement manger (the person who I'll be working for) and general HR who are always happy to help with any other issues.

As an Engineering Technician apprentice, I was hired by a manager on the site on my interview day. He has a vision for my professional development that includes a plan with the team that covers years after my apprenticeship finishes.

"I have regular and open conversations about my future with the business."
We can't just tell you that apprenticeships are the best thing for you, but they do give you a stepping stone into the real working world while still gaining the qualifications you could have got elsewhere (without even having to pay for them)!
