Architectural technicians work closely with architectural teams on the design process of building projects.
You can qualify as an architectural technician by taking a foundation degree or higher national diploma approved by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. Subjects include architectural technology and the built environment. You'll usually need 1 or 2 A-Levels, or equivalent, for a foundation degree or higher national diploma.
You may need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, for a Level 3 course or T Level.

As an apprentice, the successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team and support senior members of the department.The majority of the Apprentice Machinists day will be occupied by learning all aspects of machinery.Main duties and responsibilities will include: - To use our AlphaCam program to convert a 2D drawing to a 3D drawing and adding the required tooling and toolpaths using multiple tools such as a straight flat cutter to apply the relevant profile cutter needed - To do carving profiles for ionic capitals and architectural corbels using small router cutters, like a 45 degree tool, 16mm radius and a 3mm radius for finer detailing which can produce amazingly detailed finishes - Setting cutter depths - Running programs - Safe use of hand tools and machinery within the workshop environment
- Measuring and marking out - Use of various machinery, tools and equipment to manufacture various products or components - Manufacture of components - Cutting timber using machinery - Sanding down and quality checking - Working towards Health & Safety Regulations. - Keeping the work areas clean and tidy.
Daily tasks will be based on a progressive program of work based learning. This will be supervisor lead across various departments and activities.These will include: - Cabinet building - Assembly techniques - Cabinet finishingAll health and safety provision will be in place along with inductions into the manufacturing plant.
Reporting to, and working alongside the experienced CNC operator. - Learning and using Alphacam, CNC software to program the machine and schedule work to be efficient, at capacity, accurate, minimizing waste. - Interpreting construction drawings to breakdown into CNC components for CNC cutting. - Learning and understanding different tooling for use on the CNC machine. - Maintaining and cleaning tooling, CNC machines and working machinery. - Checking components are produced with accuracy. Checking quality levels are maintained. - Ordering materials, glues, screws for the CNC and generally in the workshop. Stock keeping of materials used.
