Hello, I Am Jack

The idea of an apprenticeship was always appealing to me and something I saw myself suited to. This is because in a way the company invests in you and funds your learning/training in order for you to grow and become a successful employee. When applying for Marsh I saw they had numerous opportunities and incredible benefits and since joining the company they have only gotten better. I like the idea of being able to learn the ins and outs of your job role while gaining all the relevant qualifications at the same time.

Tell us more about your experience

What are your interests outside of work?

Football, Gym, spending time with friends and family.

Can you describe your job and what you do on a day-to-day basis?

My role is an apprentice Real Estate Client Advisor, and this entails working alongside my colleagues and other teams within Marsh, as well as insurers to manage a client's portfolio and any actions they take within their stated policy period. For example, any property sales or additions are dealt with and organised accordingly with the corresponding insurers. Mixed in with this I have monthly tasks set by my training provider that help us learn about how to be a successful employee. I also have set hours each week to study for the Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate which means taking 3 exams.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

My highlight so far has been attending a client meeting in London with my colleagues, discussing renewal plans for a new client and conveying what we believe would suit them best. This was a massive step for me as I was able to involve myself in areas, I felt confident with and portray that to others.

What has been the biggest challenge of your career so far?

Most definitely balancing my apprenticeship work with general day to day servicing tasks as during renewal periods work can get very busy and it is easy to forget about other work that is just as important for growing your career and progressing

What sort of support network do you have at your company?

I have my line manager as well as colleagues within my team; I have my training provider coach as well as my apprentice cohort coordinator. Aside from all this everyone I interact with at Marsh and with Davies I feel like I can go to if I ever need support with anything.

What will happen at the end of your apprenticeship and have you discussed this with your employer?

When I finish and hopefully pass my apprenticeship alongside my Chartered Insurance Institute exams, I will have discussions with my line manager and talk about next steps for me and my career, whether that includes staying in my current team or wanting to branch out and explore different areas of the business.

What would be your words of advice to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is such an amazing opportunity for those that want to gain their qualifications while learning the practical elements of the job in question. It can be challenging at times in terms of balancing learning your job role as well as working towards gaining your qualifications however if you set yourself a routine in the early stages you will have no troubles in succeeding and getting where you want to be with your goals. I most certainly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone as there are numerous opportunities to grow and achieve what you want to.
