GetMyFirstJob Ambassador

Hello, I Am Milly

Tell us more about your experience

In my role, I communicate with Sage’s customers through WebChat and phone calls, ensuring that they are happy with their products and try and add value to their customer experience. One of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on is when I started to engage with all the groups within the company. After I made a few posts based on trans awareness and I got the opportunity to bring light to things that really matter to me!

I felt so proud after completing my first chat with a customer! I’m not exactly a ‘people person’ and this seemed so far from my comfort zone, but I got through it and I’m getting more and more comfortable every day. It’s a change from before as I was slipping into quite a bad place before my apprenticeship, and I have had to overcome adversity to get here. I struggled badly with my mental health and my partner encouraged me to go for the opportunity. When I got my apprenticeship, it didn’t make my problems go away, but now they’re a lot easier to manage.

“I thought an apprenticeship would be the right option for me, as I have everything I could get at a university and more.”

I now have something positive I can channel my energy into, and it acts as a good distraction, all whilst helping my partner and I get closer to finding a home together. Ever since starting at Sage, and surrounding myself with positive people, I started to feel like I have a real purpose and that is a feeling I take home and inspires both of us to keep fighting. I thought an apprenticeship would be the right option for me, as I have everything I could get at a university and more. Plus, instead of being in debt trying to achieve a qualification, I have this which is much more personalised to my needs, and I’m paid on top!

I thought I would really benefit from moving out of a strictly educational environment so I could get more experience while earning qualifications at the same time. It seemed to make a lot more sense to me than going to uni. I’m glad I chose an apprenticeship – everyone in my team is so eager to help if I have a work-related issue. They offer free counselling along with other benefits that can help support us.

It’s important to remember that feeling like a deer in headlights after leaving is normal. There are so many different options, and it can be overwhelming! If you do the research to find something you know you’ll enjoy, you can get the qualification and enjoy yourself while doing it. It’s a win-win at the end of the day. After my apprenticeship, I hope to see myself progressing further in the company. I would love to be able to branch out and explore another area of the business, which I’ve been told is definitely an option.
