Trading standards officers (TSOs) protect consumers and businesses by promoting a safe and fair trading environment.
Some local authorities may sponsor you for the consumer protection degree. This means that you'll get work experience whilst you study. It could also lead to a job after you graduate. You'll usually need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English, maths and science and 2 to 3 A-Levels, or equivalent.
You'll find it useful to have experience of legal, retail or advice work. Some local councils may offer work experience or internships in trading standards in departments like environmental health.

With experience, you could become a senior TSO or manager. You could also move into private consultancy work.
Quality control assistants check that control systems and products meet recognised standards.
Crown prosecutors make sure that decisions to bring people to court are fair and likely to succeed.
Accounting technicians handle day-to-day financial matters in all types of businesses.
Security Service personnel protect the UK against threats to national security.
Personal assistants carry out support tasks for individuals and managers including administration, diary management and event planning.
Legal secretaries provide administrative support for lawyers and legal executives.
The Data Technician Apprentice will work with the Performance Reporting and Data Manager to support internal teams by providing regular reporting as well as ad-hoc analysis into performance whilst studying for the Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship. This role will involve using a large range of data sets (including book issues, PC usage, customer demographics) to create data visualisations for a range of audiences, contributing to a strong reporting and data culture focused on improving operational performance and maximising the social value and impact of the charity.
