Local government administrative assistants provide clerical support in council departments and give information to the public.
You'll usually need 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 (A* to D), or the equivalent, for a Level 2 course. For a Level 3 course, you'll need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or the equivalent.
You'll usually need some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent, for a Level 2 (intermediate) apprenticeship. 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English and maths, are needed for a Level 3 (advanced) apprenticeship.

With experience, you could progress to admin officer of office manager, or jobs in other local authority departments. You could also move into administrative work in other sectors.
School business managers oversee the efficient day-to-day running of a school and support the headteacher and leadership team.
Typists use a computer to produce letters, reports and other documents.
Medical secretaries provide office support in hospitals, GP surgeries, private clinics and universities.
Immigration officers make decisions on whether people have the right to visit or stay in the UK.
Telephonists, or switchboard operators, answer and connect calls and take messages.
Health service managers run local healthcare services like hospitals, GP practices and community health services.

As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll be embedded into a fully operational reception sales and administration department where you will work closely with experiencedcolleagues to learn and develop the specific customer service standards. You’ll develop an excellent understanding of what great customer service requires and be able to demonstrate these skills against nationally-recognised standards.
Join our team, and you’ll become an expert advisor. An inspiration as well as a guide. The person who gets to know every customer and their home improvement projects. Sales will be important, of course, as will things like managing stock, setting up displays, and making sure your store looks great. You’ll have the opportunity to be trained in paint-mixing and cutting timber, but truly great customer service will be your main aim.
Flexible shifts: The hours of work are 36 hours a week, following a shift pattern that varies from month to month between 8 am - 8 pm & 1 in every 4 Saturdays. One of our friendly team members will discuss available shifts with you.The start date for the role is 20th January 2025
